Charlotte Flair wants to beat John Cena to being a 17 time WWE champ

Last Saturday (Aug. 21) at SummerSlam, Charlotte Flair won the Raw Women’s championship. WWE is now calling this her twelfth reign; for a while last year when she was NXT Women’s champ they were counting her two runs with that belt, but now are just recognizing her Divas title, five SmackDown Women’s & six Raw Women’s title wins.

Also at SummerSlam, John Cena failed to win the Universal championship from Roman Reigns. If he had beaten The Tribal Chief, Cena would have stood alone in the WWE record books with 17 top title wins, breaking his tie with Charlotte’s father, Ric.

It all made it an appropriate time for Renee Paquette to ask The Queen during a live recording of Oral Sessions if she wants to surpass her dad... and Cena.

“I think I want to. I don’t know! Because I don’t know what it means. Like if I surpass, are then they gonna say it’s [start calling Ric] Charlotte’s dad?”

Much of the discussion between Paquette and Flair on the podcast was about gaining the self-confidence to go after the things you want in life, which Renee reminded Charlotte of before the finished with the topic. It led the champ to conclude:

“Yes, I’m gonna be a 16-time champion one day... 17 time! Cena better not beat me before.”

WOO!

With Cena’s schedule limiting him to short stints with WWE in between Hollywood commitments, it’s starting to seem unlikely he’ll surpass The Nature Boy in WWE’s version of history. Charlotte, meanwhile, figures to be a fixture of the title scene for as long as she wants to be. But will Hollywood, the desire to work with her fiance in another company, or something else she talks about on Oral Sessions, stepping away from everything “to have little Mannys” (Andrade’s shoot first name is Manuel) slow or end her championship dreams?
