The Nightly: June 11th, 2023

Hello Nightly!!!

Tonight we take a look at Bolt. Bolt features John Travolta as the title character, as it centers on a dog, who is the star of a hit action show, but doesn’t know that he’s the star of this show. The movie is basically what would happen if you crossed the Truman Show with Buzz Lightyear’s character arc in the first Toy Story. It’s just okay, the cast doesn’t do this movie any favors, people like John Travolta and Miley Cyrus feel more so cast due to their star power, Travolta, even though he’s a good actor, feels miscast as Bolt, they don’t really have him give a lot of the charisma that this character probably should have. Susie Essman is great on Curb Your Enthusiasm, but as the cat sidekick, she’s not utilized to her full potential. Same with James Lipton as the director, he’s very underutilized in the movie. Randy Savage is also in the film briefly as an unnamed thug in the Bolt show at the beginning. Random but cool. The film probably just needed a bit of a rewrite, and the addition of an actual villain. This movie isn’t awful, it’s just average. Not bad, but probably not something I would watch again.

On to the Nightly.
