The Nightly: June 9th, 2023

Hello Nightly!!!

Tonight it’s a CGI double feature as we take a look at the first two Disney CGI movies, Chicken Little and Meet The Robinsons.

Chicken Little is an absolute disaster of a movie. I’ve sat through some stinkers during this marathon, and honestly, I think this might be Disney’s worst movie. The movie is all over the place, it’s not funny, it wastes the talents of a lot of funny actors like Joan Cusack, Harry Shearer, Don Knotts, Garry Marshall, Fred Willard, the list goes on. Buck Cluck is an awful character, and other characters like Fish Out of Water, and Runt are literally only there to make pop culture references, and 99 percent of the time, they make no sense and feel completely out of place. This is an awful movie that wants to be like Dreamworks and especially Shrek, but the writing and lack of satire holds it back from being in that class. I’m not sure if I can even recommend it as a so bad it’s good movie. It’s just bad.

Meet The Robinsons on the other hand, is the exact opposite. It’s a neat time travel science fiction movie, about a boy from the past who ends up meeting his future family. All the characters are likable, the comedy actually works more often that not, the villain is good. Really my only complaints about it is that the third act is a bit weak, and the message of keep moving forward, while a great message, is a bit overdone a lot of the time. Like if this were WWE, I’d have no doubt that the message would be trademarked and put on a shirt the first chance it got.

On to the Nightly.
