WWE NXT Battleground is all set to pop off today (Sun., May 28, 2023) at 8pm ET, live on Peacock and WWE Network!

CagesideSeats.com will provide LIVE blow-by-blow, match-by-match coverage of NXT Battleground below, beginning with the first match of the evening and right on through to the main event.

NXT heads to Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts for their big Memorial Day weekend premium live event. This one has five different title matches. We can help get you up to speed on all that in our preview & predictions!

WWE NXT BATTLEGROUND LIVE BLOG & MATCH COVERAGE

Greetings and Happy Memorial Day Weekend, Cagesiders! ‘Tis I, your Noble Scribe, and I am honored to serve as your guest blogger this evening. Thank you to Geno Mrosko and the entire staff at Cageside Seats for this opportunity. Unlike Jimmy Uso, I won’t betray you. With that said, let’s go!

Then. Now. Forever. Together.

Sean Grande of the Boston Celtics narrates the opening video, hyping the history of WWE in Massachusetts, and the return of the hometown boy, NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes.

Vic Joseph and Booker T are your commentary team.

Wes Lee (c) vs. Tyler Bate vs. Joe Gacy (NXT North American Championship)

Gacy enters last with Ava by his side. Let’s see how she factors into this one. Everyone tries to steal a pin early, earning two counts all around. Gacy tossed out, as Lee and Bate square up. But Gacy’s trash talk earns their scorn and they pummel Gacy outside the ring. But tensions flare and Bate and Lee turn on each other before Gacy wipes them out with a dive.

Gacy with a slam on Bate gets him a near-fall. Lee is back in with a sunset flip on Gacy but no win. Lee with strikes and a double stomp takes out Gacy, and he follows up with a Frankensteiner on Bate. Bate’s turn to be in charge, with a pair of overhead suplexes, a fake punch to Gacy into an airplane spin.

Lee comes in with a kick but gets caught by Bate, who turns it into a simultaneous airplane swing and big swing on his foes!

Gacy up catches Lee and powerbombs him into Bate, following up with a death drop-Rock Bottom combo to Lee and Bate. Bate is caught in the Rings of Saturn but Lee makes the save.

A three-way fist exchange ends in a double clothesline between Gacy and Bate, Lee fires back with a Cardiac Kick. Everyone is down now. Lee back up with elbows to the corner, but Gacy moves only to end up in a sleeper hold but Gacy throws him off into the buckle.

Tyler Driver ‘97 to Gacy, Meteora to Bate. Bate outside now. Lee with a DIVE over the ropes and Gacy to the outside wiping out Bate.

Back inside, Gacy drills Lee with the Uranage. Gacy goes for the Upside Down, BUT WAIT...

Noam Dar (c) vs. Dragon Lee (Heritage Cup)

As a reminder, this match is being contested under British Rounds Rules.

Round One:

They begin with an exchange of kicks and chain wrestling that leads to Dar on top with an armbar. Lee rises, but Dar wrenches the arm across his shoulder. Dar transitions to the legs but is unable to tie Lee up. After a series of kick attempts, Lee gets the better of Dar and ends the round with a dropkick through the ropes. During the break, Oro Mensah arrives to support Dar.

Round Two:

Lee picks up with a flying hurricanrana and a boot to the corner. Lee nails a series of strikes and a missile dropkick for a two-count but a back elbow by Dar allows him to tie Lee up for the pin.

Round Three:

Lee starts round three with strikes. Up to the second rope, but Dar kicks him off. Dar pummels Lee with his forearms and poses for the crowd.

Superkick by Lee stuns Dar, who gets to the outside. Frankensteiner to the outside, and a suicide dive flatten Dar.

Big knee by Lee but he can’t score the pin. Lee pummels Dar but is unable to finish him as the round ends.

Dar with a back elbow after the bell gets a warning from the referee.

Round Four:

Dar hits a big kick and a sliding lariat that earns him a two. Lee with an inside cradle but eats a kick for his trouble. Lee battling back wraps up a Texas Cloverleaf, but Mensah pushes the ropes to Dar, but a spinning death drop by Lee ties us at two.

Mensah and Nathan Frazer continue to get physical with each other and get ejected.

Round Five:

Lee goes for another Frankensterin to the outside but gets powerbombed on the arena floor. Dar rolls him back in but gets a two. Kicks to the chest of Lees, and charges in but is met with a German suplex. BIG SITOUT POWERBOMB. Jakara Jackson comes down to distract the ref. Lash Legend out now and nails Lee with the spit bucket to the ribs. Legend with a bucket to the lower back of Lee...

Noam Dar wins by pinfall with the Nova Roller to retain the Heritage Cup.


Ilja Dragunov vs. Dijak (Last Man Standing Match)

A slugfest ensues before Dijak gets the upper hand. An exchange of chops and clothesline by Dijk. Dragunov gets knocked to the outside and Dijak grabs the steps and tosses them into the ring.

Back outside now, and Dragunov takes charge. He dives off the other steel step and flies right into the boot of Dijak. Dijak with a suplex onto the stairs and now we see TABLES and the crowd goes WILD.

A mistake by Dijak as Ilja cannonballs himself through the table and into Dijak. Both men are up and back in the ring. Ilja goes for the deadlift German but gets tossed back onto the steps that are in the ring.

Dijak goes for a slam but gets DDT’d onto the steps, and both men are down again. Ilja up at five, kicks to the corner and HURLS THE STEPS into Dijak’s face! Steps in place, Ilja up top, goes COAST-TO-COAST imprinting the steps in Dijak’s face! DIJAK IS UP AT NINE!

Chops, superkick, Dragunov gets the better of it with another series of chops. Both men are down and Ilja continues to drill Dijak with chops. Overhead deadlift release-German to Dijak, but the man WON’T DIE and chokeslams Dragunov onto the apron. Ilja back up and gets dragged back into the ring, FEAST YOUR EYES!

Dijak pulls out a kendo stick and goes full Aaron Judge into the chest of Dragunov. “Do you feel alive,” asks Dijak.

Ilja, “Not even close.”

Dijak for a third time tees off on Ilja and tells him to stay down while wiping Ilja’s blood onto the kendo stick before destroying the stick. Dijak gets more plunder in the form of a chair. Dijak with shots to the gut and across the back.

Dijak charges in but is met with a leaping forearm.

Ilja sets up the stairs and leaps off with a SUPER TORPEDO MOSKAU onto the back of Dijak driving him face-first into the chair. The referee begins his count. Ilja up. Seven-eight-nine...

Ilja survives as Dijak fails to answer the ten-count.


Noam Dar is backstage celebrating his Heritage Cup with Oro Mensah, Lash Legend, and Jakara Jackson. He refers to his championship as historic before putting Mensah, Legend and Jackson over and says they are the top. “Check, please.”

Gallus (c) vs. The Creed Brothers (NXT Tag Team Championship)

Bell sounds and Julius scores a single leg on Wolfgang. Wolfgang counters and makes a quick tag to Coffey before meeting the same fate.

Brutus is in and continues the wrestling clinic on Coffey. Tempers flare and all four men are in now. Cooler heads prevail as do the Creeds, who take over with a series of knee strikes to Coffey highlighted by a belly-to-back suplex. Quick tag to Brutus who flies off with a double axe handle. BRUTUS SMASH! Now Brutus SQUEEZE with a headlock.

Blind tag to Wolfgang who gets the advantage with a hot shot. Wearing Brutus down with a neck crank. A series of tags leads back to Wolfgang throwing himself into Brutus with a senton variation.

Julius appeals to the crowd and IT WORKS! Brutus nails another belly-to-back but Wolfgang tags in and maintains control over the challengers. Wolfgang takes his eye off the prize and Julius tags in. Overhead belly-to-bellies for the champs. STRAPS ARE DOWN as Julius campaigns for mayor of Suplex City.

Creeds attempt a Doomsday but Coffey rolls through. Double slam by Gallus, and Brutus responds with a dive off the top. Everyone back up and a bruhaha ensues. Rolling spinebuster by Julius. Mark Coffey is in but Ivy Nile takes care of him.

AVA! IT’S AVA! SHE TAKES OUT NILE! The Creeds are distracted...

Coffey pins Julius after the Boot of Doom as Gallus retains the NXT Tag Team Titles.


Lyra Valkyria vs. Tiffany Stratton (NXT Women’s Championship)

They jockey for position before Lyra gains control with a headlock takedown and a near-fall.

Stratton is rattled after a series of pin attempts, but she regains her composure. Leap frog by Valkyria and she lands awkwardly, twisting her knee. She recovers but it’s something to watch. Still, she maintains the advantage and gets caught on a diving attempt, where Stratton drops Lyra’s injured knee onto the apron and then TWICE into the ring post.

Tiffany removes Lyra’s brace and punishes her with a leg-whips and a Ric Flair-esque knee breaker. Stratton wrenching at the knee with submissions including a stretch muffler, forcing Lyra to cry out in pain.

Roll through by Valkyria gets a two and scores a break and a two count after kicking Stratton off a figure-four attempt. Missle dropkick and both women are down.

Both women back up. Strikes, “YAY, “BOO!” Lyra gets the upper hand, a pair of Northern Lights but Stratton breaks it up on the third try.

Lyra with a Missle dropkick and dive to the outside. Back inside and to the top, flies like Steamboat, but Stratton rolls through and muscles her up before getting taken down with a CRUCIFIX BOMB!

Stratton almost takes over but stomps at the knee and hits a double stomp to the face, 1-2-NO!

German by Lyra, goes for the roundhouse, HER KNEE BUCKLES. Stratton with the rolling fireman’s slam, goes for the Prettiest Moonsault Ever but THE POOL IS EMPTY!

Lyra with the roundhouse kick, 1-2-STRATTON GETS A TOE ON THE ROPE, fans are going wild, “NXT! NXT NXT!”

Stratton meets Lyra on the ropes. Lyra tries to go for the sunset powerbomb but gets nailed with a Frankensteiner. Rolling fireman’s slam again...

Tiffany Stratton wins via pinfall with the Prettiest Moonsault Ever to become the new NXT Women’s Champion.


Carmelo Hayes (c) vs. Bron Breakker (NXT Championship)

Breakker basks in the Lowell heat during intros as the hometown hero doesn’t let the crowd’s love or Breakker’s mad dogging faze him.

Hayes starts fast with a sliding kick to Breakker’s left leg. B

Breakker tries to keep his distance but eats a pump kick and somersault plancha to the outside for his troubles.

Powerslam by Breakker, shoulders in the corner rock Hayes. Breakker in control, taunts the crowd, “Let’s go, Melo,” and gives TrickWilliams a piece of his mind.

A distracted Breakker eats a Fade Away, and Hayes goes right back to the injured leg, punishing him with a single-leg crab.

Back up and Bron hits a Steiner Line and a series of overhead belly-to-belly, and then reminds Lowell that, “Boston sucks,” but Lowell responds, “You suck! You suck!”

Breakker sets Melo up on the ropes for a superplex, but Melo kicks Bron off. Bron quickly recovers and leaps up with a SUPER DUPER FRANKENSTEINER, but gets just a two.

A suplex by Bron gets countered into a DDT, and they trade punches. Melo gets the better of the exchange, pump kick, and springboard clothesline, but he can’t keep Bron down for one count. Melo does better with a cutter, but it’s only enough for two.

They stand and trade again, Bron goes for his finish but eats a Codebreaker. Hayes to the top rope for Nothing but Net, rolls through, dodges a spear, Breakker into the shoulder-first into the post.

Hayes springboards off the ropes and right into a SPEAR! 1-2-2.999, so close!

Bron is stunned, Trick Williams is stunned. Bron’s mad now, straps down and a series of gutwrenches. Breakker scoops him for the slam, but gets cradled.

Superkicks by Hayes Springboard DDT. Melo up top, HE FLIES...

Carmelo Hayes wins via pinfall with Nothing but Net to retain the NXT Championship.
